Shall we look at some pretty things together?
It’s a great distraction from the feels that are sitting heavy on my chest right now. I’m not going to talk about it, I promise. I’m not going to tell you how I’m homesick for a home that doesn’t exist in the physical plane . The experience is all too familiar to me, as an immigrant who has willingly made several international moves over the last two decades, so it shouldn’t feel this heavy. I’m not going to talk about how we’ve put down roots and made friends, only to move on, and the distance is too much to sustain these relationships. I’m definitely not ready to talk about how hard it is to leave community, and separate oneself from a painstakingly forged sense of belonging.
We’ve made our grown-up choice, and we must adapt. The search for something better can’t possibly be a smooth and easy one? And searching for better, isn’t that what we’re all doing when we’re browsing online? That’s our segue into the shopping portion of this newsletter.
Moving to the US means I can now shop from retailers I couldn’t, or wouldn’t before, because of taxes and tarrifs. So let’s focus on new possibilities, people!
I am most excited to browse The Real Real! I’ve been squirrelling things away to my wishlist, but since I feel a little iffy about shipping things to this Airbnb, I thought it’s best to share my finds with friends.
Starting off with this Dries shirt that is under $200. You could wear it tucked, with denim shorts, or layer it unbuttoned over a tank top, like a kimono.
Then there’s this brocade jacket, that deserves a good home. It’s the kind of novelty piece that I know I’d wear everywhere, with everything.
How stunning is this Issey Miyake top?
Perhaps something floral in spirit?
Current season things that are on my mind include this skirt from Dries, that I think would be the perfect length on me. Also debating this one from Chan Luu!
Did you know that I’ve never tried anything from Tibi before? Shipping and international returns kept me away, but nothing can stop me now (I fear)!
A piece that I know will get lots of wear in my closet is this nylon blazer!
Every season there are a few Rachel Comey pieces that catch my eye. I have these pants in an ochre colorway. They are constructed beautifully. There’s something about this monochromatic burgundy set that’s just so striking!
Smitten by the proportions of this outfit!
This kurta from Chan Luu is very south Asian coded and can be dressed up for a desi party, or dressed down for the beach. I love the colors and the contrasting bead work on this piece!
After a hiatus from reading, I’m back to it! Finished Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi on the plane, and just started Yesteryear this week. Both books have a time travel element to them, which isn’t something I sought out consciously…so that’s interesting.
My plan for the next letter is to answer a few styling related questions, that I’ve been asked often. If you have one for me, share it below please!

Give yourselves some grace - change is always hard. You will find your stride soon enough. PS That dries skirt is the size of a postcard in real life!! It'll be great as a third piece though. And chan Luu makes a lot of pieces in India so that tracks.
My husband is an immigrant (originally from the DR but also grew up in Spain) and he is so homesick for Spain. We've talked about if we should ever move there for a period of time. Moving takes so much courage. I admire all the changes you have made and hopefully you enjoy this new city!
